Apologies if this is a bit POV and imperialist but I really don't have the knowledge to do any more than wikify. Good luck! Cutler 12:04, Nov 8, 2004 (UTC)

The birth of George Taubman Goldie

[edit]

George Taubman Goldie was born on the Isle of Man(1846-1925)in British. He received his formal education at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, England. He was also a former officer of the British Army.

In 1867 Goldie travelled to Egypt, where he spent three years in Sudan, reading and learning about the Saharan and sudanic region of north and west Africa. It was while still in Sudan that he learnt about Nigeria from the Hausa pilgrims passing through the Sudan to or from Saudi Arabia. This later helped out in his career as British colonial administrator in the Nigeria river area. After leaving Africa in 1870 he married and returned to the Isle of Man 105.112.154.141 (talk) 04:18, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

FSR

[edit]

In all the sources I have seen, Sir George Goldie is said to have become fellow of the 'Royal Geographical Society', not the 'Royal Society'. Is the FSR behind his name in the article correct? Skaldis (talk) 15:59, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
